SINGLE STORY COMPOSIT BUILDING
4 bed 2

A single-story composite building is a modern structure that combines multiple materials, most commonly steel and concrete, to maximize efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

In this construction method, steel members are used for their tensile strength, while concrete is utilized for its compressive strength, allowing the materials to work together as a single, stronger unit.

Common composite elements

  • Steel-concrete composite floors: Concrete is poured over profiled steel decking to create a floor slab. Shear connectors are used to bind the concrete and steel sections together, allowing them to act compositely and create a more robust floor system.
  • Composite beams: These consist of a steel beam connected to a concrete slab, forming a single unit that is stronger and stiffer than either material on its own. In some designs, like the slim-floor system, the steel beams are embedded within the floor slab to reduce the overall floor depth.
  • Composite columns: A common type is a concrete-filled steel tube (CFT), which uses a steel tube as a formwork for the concrete. The concrete is contained by the steel, increasing its compressive strength and providing fire resistance.
